Once again, we bring you some great feedback from yet another great eatery that we have discovered in Barcelona. It is vegan/vegetarian-friendly, with plenty of healthy options and has been around for at least 2 years, but it´s quite small and easy to miss. “Dynamite comes in small packages“, they say. This was definitely the case for Santoni Cafetería!
As the name implies, this tiny eatery is located at the edge of the Sant Antoni area, close to Plaça Universitat (just as you exit the metro station on Ronda Sant Antoni). They offer an incredible selection of cakes, muffins, croissants and sandwiches, but also freshly prepared cooked meals during the day. Most of their food is vegan or can be ordered as such. If you love croissants and cakes but don´t eat eggs, this is the perfect place, as they manage to keep the incredible taste without using any dairy products. Their coffee is served with your choice of regular cow´s milk or one of their organic nut milk varieties.
They also have a wide selection of juices and milkshakes (also vegan-friendly). We tried a “green juice” consisting of all sorts of healthy ingredients, as well as a virgin Pina Colada – both very tasty. We also tried a grilled veggie sandwich and a typical tortilla de patatas sandwich that were exceptionally good.
The place seems to be managed by the owners, a Catalan couple who greet guests with a warm welcome and who also speak English. Their menu is also in English, in case you haven´t been able to get your Spanish gastronomical vocabulary to a decent level! On their Facebook page you can find more information about the meals for the day. These include items like baked potatoes, stuffed zucchini, Waldorf Salad, Couscous with grilled wok vegetables, and many more. In the colder winter months, they even have thick, vegan hot chocolate by the cup!
All their ingredients come from a local farms so by supporting them, you know that you are not just eating more healthy, but you are also helping out the local economy. Make sure to give them a try, even if you are not vegan or vegetarian. Find them on the map below.
