SAVING MONEY IN BARCELONA
Many people say that Barcelona is a pretty expensive place. People who have lived in both Madrid and Barcelona say the prices are pretty much the same and of course much higher than other cities around Spain. And yes, it is true – Barcelona is not the cheapest place to live, but with time everybody learns how to better manage his/her finances in the city.
There a many ways you can save some money if you are on a budget, want to add some cash to a savings account or you just simply love a good bargain!
There are certain rules that apply to finances in Barcelona and every expat learns which places to avoid, what type of metro card to use, and thanks to websites like Tripadvisor you read opinions and see which places are worth visiting and which are not. Paying 30 Euros for a, shall we politely call it a “flavorless, pre-frozen” lunch is daylight robbery (We refer of course to the Paellas that are served in many touristic spots.)
So, first and most important rule for dining out – avoid touristic restaurants. Another useful tip for eating outside is to take advantage of the “menu del dia” offers. I will go into more detail on these days in a separate post. But to give you an idea – even Picasso museum has a free day admission. So if you are patient you can save some money on museum entrances.
If you are into cinema you should keep in mind that there are “viewers” day once per week in most of the cinemas, when the price is reduced. Plus there are several cinemas in Barcelona where they show older movies on a reduced price.
If you are living in Barcelona for longer we are sure you started to discover the offer websites and in Spain there are many. There you can get discounts on activities such as cinemas, theaters, beauty procedures, trips and holidays, restaurants vouchers, tours around Barcelona, and you can even buy different products. Some of the popular group shopping website in Spain are:
