One of the great things about BARcelona, is that there is no shortage of amazing bars, whether they specialize in beers, cocktails, gin & tonics or whatever other drinks quench your thirst. It seems that new places are consistently opening up all over the city, and the good ones don´t take long to get their just recognition as word of mouth spreads news about what makes each one of these places unique.
Not having any specific plans on New Year’s, we went walking around the upper part of Born neighborhood and stumbled across a place we´d never seen before called Tosca. It has since become one of our favorite hangout places! It´s located right opposite the Palau de Musica so very easy to find, and for this very reason the place is almost always full of people who are waiting for their show to begin. When we were there on New Years, they had just been open for a few weeks and everyone in the packed restaurant seemed to be having a great time. A few minutes before 12PM, we were each brought a complimentary glass of Cava and 12 grapes – keeping with the tradition in Spain of eating grapes as it turns 12.00. This we thought was a nice touch.
Upon entering, you are welcomed by very friendly waiters who as far as we could tell also speak English. The décor is a little bit rustic yet modern and stylish and the general atmosphere relaxed and welcoming – almost like you´re at home. Besides serving excellent cocktails (strawberry mojito especially) at very good prices, they have a very good wine selection and amazing tapas such as the typical patatas bravas, hummus with toasted bread, vegetable tempura served with soy sauce, and the tastiest pan con tomate we´ve tried in Barcelona, among many other delicious options. Some of these include chicken skewers with curry/honey sauce, mussels and also an amazing breakfast menu that includes pancakes! Since we are vegetarian, it´s nice to find a place that has tapas that you don´t generally find in most bars in Spain that mostly serve meat.
We highly recommend Tosca as we´ve been there at least a dozen times, and every single time has been a great experience where the food is always tasty, the drinks are perfect, the service is excellent and the atmosphere homely. Check out their facebook page to see updates and specials. They now have “Gin & Tonic Tuesdays” and they have recently added some items to their menu.
