DOGS ON THE BARCELONA METRO
They say that “every dog has his day”. In Barcelona that was very true for all dogs in Barcelona, as the ban on bringing your four-legged canine friend on the metro was lifted. This is great news for people without a car who would have had a difficult time taking their pet to the beach or the park for an extended walk. Previously, only small dogs were allowed to travel on the metro. As of 1st October dogs of all sizes are allowed to travel with their owners during most of the day.
If you are a dog owner and plan to travel with him/her on the metro, there are a few rules you need to adhere to however:
- During peak hours (07:00 – 09:00 and 17:00 – 19:00), dogs will not be allowed on the metro.
- Dogs will have to wear a muzzle and will need the microchip under their skin to be identified.
- Only one dog per person.
- If you´re under the age of 16, you won´t be allowed to travel with dogs of the more dangerous breeds.
- Dogs may not occupy any seats on the metro and shouldn´t go on to the escalators.
It goes without saying that you have a responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that it behaves appropriately and doesn’t endanger or inconvenience other passengers on the metro. If you still do not have a dog, why not adopt one? There are so many dogs (and cats) that are in desperate need of a loving home and who want to enjoy a fun ride on the metro of Barcelona!
