MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2013
Monday marks the start of the 5th (for Barcelona) annual Mobile World Congress, which has become the largest exhibition in the world for the entire mobile industry, where Chief Executives from all the major mobile device manufacturers, mobile operators and technology vendors from across the world get together. Attendees from over 200 countries are usually in attendance, and last year the event attracted 67000 participants!
Every year there is a tremendous amount of anticipation regarding what the new technologies and announcement will be, and this event is shaping Barcelona to be the mobile technology leading city in Europe, since it was decided that Barcelona will be the official site of the event through 2018. This also of course implies that the city of Barcelona is investing a lot of money in improving the networks and mobile infrastructure in the city and ensuring that the requirements for the industry stay up to standard.
This year it seems, Nokia is due to make a comeback with a surprise or two in store. There are rumors of a 41 megapixel camera-phone, as well as some new Windows phones.
Samsung is also expected to reveal some interesting new devices, amongst others the 8-inch Galaxy Note, and a few other devices such as Galaxy Young and Fame phones.
The other major companies such as HTC, Huawei and LG will of course also be present, although there don´t seem to be any specific rumors surrounding any surprises on their side.
Blackberry it seems, is going to take a break this year, most probably due to their recent event where they launched the new Blackberry Z10.
If you consider yourself a tech-junkie, or you perhaps work in the mobile industry, its not too late to register for this event, which will take place as usual at the FIRA de Barcelona, near Plaza España.
