Every major city has its up-and-coming area where a previously less popular district is transformed into something that attracts more visitors. Whether it be through facelifts to the infrastructure, the attraction to restaurant and café owners to open new establishments or simply international companies who open offices there due to reduced rent, these areas give new life to parts of a city that were slowly becoming only memories of their glory days.
In Barcelona, Poblenou is this trendy new area. Previously a predominantly industrial district, it has now attracted a multitude of new businesses, cocktail bars, art studios, co-working hubs and much much more. If you are not familiar with Poblenou yet, head down on the 21st of March to enjoy the Poblenou Open Day.
Important community establishments such as Disseny Hub Barcelona and Torre Agbar will be open, sharing their activities and giving you the chance to learn more about what they have to offer. There are also 8 local hotels where you can enjoy tapas and drinks for €3 between 11:00 and 20:00 (See the list under “Hotel Tapa Tour”) on the official website.

If you grew up in the nineties, you definitely know Robbie Williams from his boyband days. Whether it be as a solo artists or part of the boy band “Take That”, Robbie has enjoyed a very successful career and even explored other genres such as Swing outside of his typical pop/rock style with equal success and welcome from his fans. With over 77 million albums sold, he is one of the best-selling artists of all time, not to mention the best-selling British solo artist in the United Kingdom. His “Let me entertain you” tour is currently taking place and you can catch him in concert right here in Barcelona on the 27th. There are still some tickets left and if you can not find ones with a price that you are willing to pay, you can definitely search the classified ads for people who are selling their tickets.
EARTH HOUR BARCELONA 2015
WHEN: Sunday 28 March between 20:30 and 21:30
WHERE: 160 cities across the globe
WHAT: Earth hour
The lights will go out across many cities and city landmarks all over the world on Sunday. The reason? – to conserve some energy and raise awareness about Climate Change. Close to 2000 cities in over 80 countries are committed to switching their lights off for one hour on iconic buildings and some of them even host special events during this time. According to the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is the largest demonstration against carbon emissions. Some of the buildings in Barcelona that will turn off their lights are:
- Torre Agbar
- Santa Maria del Mar Church
- Sagrat Cor (on Tibidabo)
- Sagrada Familia
- Montjuic Castle
- La Pedrera
- Casa Battló
Please do your part and turn off your lights for only one hour on that evening, but also encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same.
