TEMPS DE FLORS 2014 – GIRONA
FLOWER FESTIVAL in GIRONA
WHEN: 10-18 May 2014
WHAT: Temps de Flors
Are you wondering what to do this weekend? We suggest you consider a one day trip (or even better, 2 days) to Girona to see the flower festival. It is a celebration of Spring and consists of intricate flower decorations in different spaces across this famous town. This year there will be 185 flower decoration projects distributed in 145 different locations all around the city – 82 of them you can find in patios, 54 are monuments and 9 are in gardens.
The city is beautiful by itself and there are many attractions to be seen there – The Call (Jewish neighborhood), The Cathedral, “Passeig de la Muralla”, but the city becomes especially magical and beautiful during the festival. Many of the old buildings in the city host these flower decorations in their patios or even in some of the churches, resulting in somewhat of a fairytale-like atmosphere.
This year there will be several new things – for example the basement of the Cathedral will also host one of the flower projects. There will be decorations in the roundabouts of the city and there are 60 concerts planned for the festival.
This year, due to the huge amount of people expected, the hosts will extend the working hours and on 10th, 14th and 17th May the exhibitions will stay open from 10 to 24:00.
An interesting initiative for food lovers is Gastroflors – for the 3rd year the local restaurants are encouraged to take part in the festival and include dishes where one of the ingredients is a flower.
How to get there? If you have a car or you are willing to rent one, this would be the best option as it will give you more freedom and let you visit some nearby cities if you have time. The other option is the Renfe train from Barcelona – the price of a return ticket is around 12 Euros and the journey is approximately 40 minutes.
